French Dip Sandwich

Created in Los Angeles in the early 1900s, this hearty, satisfying sandwich is packed with tender steak dipped in flavourful jus and plenty of melted cheese for a dish that hits all the right notes.

  1. What you need

    • Select the number of serves you require for this recipe, and the quantity of ingredients will be automatically adjusted accordingly.

  2. Steak

    • Cook the rump steak with oil on a hot grill until medium rare.
    • Set aside to rest, then slice thinly. Keep warm.

  3. Jus

    • Combine KNORR Jus and warm water in a pan, whisking until smooth.
    • Bring to a boil, reduce heat, then add thyme leaves. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.

  4. To Assemble & Serve

    • Cut along the centre of each roll and remove some of the soft bread inside.
    • Combine HELLMANN'S Real Mayonnaise with minced garlic and spread inside the rolls.
    • Dip the sliced steak into jus until well coated. Fill the rolls with steak and gruyere.
    • Place the rolls under the grill until cheese is melted.
    • Serve with hot chips and dill pickles, plus extra jus on the side for dipping.
